When Rugby Union team Sale Sharks outgrew their old training ground, they called on technology partner Connectus to provide a robust, secure and reliable network and communications facilities at their new Carrington-based training ground.
Despite the lockdown, the Connectus team installed a new Ultrafast Direct Internet Access (DIA) broadband line, a brand new state-of-the-art LAN and a robust WiFi system installed throughout the facility in around three weeks, despite facing the problems of moving premises during a global pandemic.
Sale Sharks called in the Connectus experts after already enjoying a strong working relationship in a deal inked in 2019 for the company to provide a high-speed fibre optical network, as well as telephony and corporate Wi-Fi to support the stadium management team at the AJ Bell Stadium in Manchester. Connectus even set up an office at the Eccles stadium to better support the Sharks’ connectivity needs.
Andy Marsden, Connectus Business Development Director said: “We had an existing relationship with the team, not only helping provide them with solid networking, but also as a team sponsor, and we sponsor the team captain. When it came to getting old systems refreshed and new systems built-in, they called on us and we delivered – even though it was during the early days of the pandemic – March 2020.”
The vital communications work provided by Connectus means the company’s engineers are classed as key workers, helping Britain’s communications networks run smoothly, and ensuring businesses can continue operating as normally as possible.
Connectus quickly got to grips with what was required and installed a fast, secure internet access line, updated the local area network and ensured the WiFi was up to date with wide availability and reliability.
“Despite the financial issues everyone faced during the lockdown, Sale Sharks realise the importance of solid communications and internet connectivity solutions in order to facilitate good business. There was a solid budget, and we were well supported in getting the job done fast and effectively,” added Marsden.
Connectus and Sale Sharks now have a three-year high-speed fibre optic network support deal in place, and Connectus remains a proud supporter of the Sharks.
Paul Smith, Operations Director, Sale Sharks, said: “We knew Connectus would understand our requirements because they were our incumbent technology provider at our previous training ground and home stadium. Thanks to the fast actions of the Connectus engineers, we were able to get things up and running in good time at the new site.”
Mark Cueto, Commercial Director at Sale Sharks, comments: “We enjoy a close working relationship, with Connectus not only providing our communications backbone but also providing corporate sponsorship of the team. As a professional rugby team, we carefully choose key partners that align with our values and provide us with reliable, trustworthy solutions. We look forward to building on this mutually beneficial partnership even more with Connectus over the coming years.”
